Harry Champion Finals Day at the Point 8th July.

Eight promising lights from the Old Saints went to The Point on Saturday last to contest the finals day against eleven other Clubs who in turn had been whittled down from the starting twenty-nine by way of preliminary matches.

The format is Better Ball Matchplay with a scoring system of 2 points for a half, 3 points for winning 1 up, 4 points for winning 2 up etc with a maximum game points of 6. OK so far!

From our 4 games we achieved 2 wins, 1 half and 1 loss. Total points for the team, 18. That gave us third place overall which was an exact result from last year. A good effort boys but lets hope next year we edge closer to the top.

(Note from Niblick - This competition is named after a St Enodoc Member - Harry "Gook" Champion. A quite remarkable player he played right hand below left, he was also County Champion in 1969. He was frequently seen on the Church Course picking up lost golf balls and was well known around the County. It is Harry whose nick name was given to that corridor of fairway on the 18th which if hit can carry the ball way down towards the 150 marker - "Gooks Alley")
