St Enodoc Frank Wills team got their defence of the title they won last year off to a solid start, today 12th October, at windy Tehidy Park. Without playing as well as they can, or indeed will need to retain the trophy, the team comfortably saw off the challenge of Mullion Golf Club.

Tehidy Park was in very good order and a credit to the greenkeepers there; the golf was made somewhat testing by the wind but then no more than golfers from St Enodoc and Mullion are used to on a weekly basis.

The top pair of Brenton and Pease were on good form and never really troubled by their opponents. Youngsters Combellack and Jarvis without being at the top of their game did what they needed to gain a second point for St Enodoc. Nick Evans and debutant Dan Witts came up against a pair of talented Mullion juniors and conceded their match on the difficult 17th hole. The ever reliable pair of Hawken and Lawrence once again had a convincing win, the first two holes were halved then the two Rich's made par on holes 3, 4, 5 and 6 courtesy of some sublime putting from Hawken. Six up after eight holes complacency set in and the loss of holes 10 and 11 was a wake up call and the match was ended on the 14th hole. Another young man with a hot putter was Jake Sanders, birdie putts on the 8th and 14th holes to go with long putts on holes 13 and 17 was enough to see him and partner Keith Hawke comfortably home.
