It is the first time since the Centenary celebrations in 1990 that St Enodoc has had a 3 day Members Festival which took place from 5th to 7th July. Captain Tony Rounsevell plus Vice Captain David Elliott and team of Rex Molloy, Annie Hawkey, Derrick Daniels, Penny Cartwright, Mike Roach, Adam Duncan & Tony Mindel pulled out all the stops for a terrific weekend of golf helped in no small measure by excellent weather. After each day's play Ian Gray and Chris Smythe ensured that all the players were well fed and watered all of which added to the convivial atmosphere. In total 220 players took part over the 3 days and without anyone knowing an overall league table was somehow devised with points awarded for each event and the overall winner was Pat Parry.

The golf got underway on Friday with a 4 Ball Better Ball competition on both courses and the scoring was unbelievably high all round – almost indecent in fact; there is no doubt that quite a few people posted really good scores and expected to be in the prizes to find that they were nowhere. The winners that day were:

Church
1st Penny Cartwright & Lynn Ashcroft 46 pts
2nd Fiona Lunt & Chris Dymond 43 pts
   3rd Geoff & Sue Jones 43 pts

Holywell
   1st John & Helen Russell 50 pts
2nd Derek Kingsbury & Ian McLellan 49 pts
   3rd John & Mary Killingley 45 pts

John Russell, Lynn Ashcroft, Helen Russell and Tony Rounsevell

On Saturday there was a Texas Scramble on the Holywell which allowed the normal Saturday Men's competition to be played on the Church. Yet again the scoring was excellent and the full field enjoyed wonderful conditions. The composition of the teams showed a complete mix from all parts of the Club and the scoring was very close.

1st Mike Roach, Pat Parry, Wendy Roskelly & David Bentley 49.4
2nd Peter Mattinson, Norman Hawkey, Sue Davis & Jackie Fisher 50.1
3rd Lynn Ashcroft, Adam Duncan, Jake Sanders & Carol Carter 50.2

Warm sunny weather and just a light breeze greeted players for the Foursomes Flag Competition on Sunday again on both courses which was effectively a medal competition seeing how far round the course a team could get before running out of shots which really sorted out the players and brought the scores back to reality. All the teams listed completed the full 18 holes

Church
1st Ian Sutcliffe & Edna Alford 36 yds short of the 19th green
   2nd Kevin & Sue Richards
   3rd Norman & Annie Hawkey
4th Richard Hawken & Sue Willmott

Ian Sutcliffe, Lynn Ashcroft, Edna Alford and Tony Rounsevell

Holywell
1st Mike & Pat Parry 84 yds short of the 20th green
2nd Derek Daniels & Judy Redman

After the golf on Sunday and seeing Andy Murray win Wimbledon there was the prize giving which as a result proved to be a lively affair, all the time the delicious smells of the Barbecue were wafting into the Clubhouse. Needless to say it tasted even better than it smelled and all credit to all of the catering staff. To round off the evening with everyone sitting outside on the grass at the front of the Clubhouse the Jazz Band, which Rex Molloy had organised, played which enabled those who wished to use the dance floor. We had a great weekend with glorious weather, grateful thanks to Captain Tony Rounsevell for coming up with the idea and to him and all his helpers for making it such a success.
