Played in very difficult windy conditions, today Sunday 23rd October at Carlyon Bay GC, St Enodoc got their 2011/12 CTC campaign off to a convincing start by winning every single match both morning and afternoon. This gave a final winning points score of 12 and 3/4 to 0. Good golf was difficult and putting was especially a challenge. Those holes along the exposed Carlyon Bay cliffs posing the biggest test of Steve Chapman's team.

With such a winning margin it is difficult to point to any specific outstanding individual performances because so many were clearly good. However mention must be made of Charlie Runnalls 1 hole win in the ninth man match. Charlie was a late replacement for the injured Andy Bunt and soon found himself 5 down after 8 holes; slowly he clawed his way back and went 1 up on the 17th. A scrambled bogey on the par 3 last, including a penalty shot, was good enough to clinch the match when his opponent - Alan Creber - managed to three putt from eight feet.

Shot of the day was probably Simon Welch's 20 yd pitch into the hole on the 17th during the morning foursomes; this ensured a half and the match. Possibly like fishermans tales this will become an 80 yd shot from an impossible lie in time.
