Well the big day arrived and with it some rather odd weather. Swirling sea mist for most of the morning; one moment cold, the next seasonably warm, even the odd sprinkle of rain. By 2.00 pm all had cleared and the later starters had some sunshine. Those Members who follow our Twitter account will know that the Head Pro - Nick Williams - has been particularly excited and exercised by this event and his Cornish Team were provided with Sharps Brewery team shirts. These looked as if they been put away into a rather damp and smelly place for a while and a good few of the Cornwall Team decided they might avoid a nasty infectious disease by not wearing them.

Anyway a large field of twenty-two teams aside set out to do battle for the coveted pasty trophy on the Church Course. The Cornish were Captained by Paul Vincent and the Rest of the World (ROW hereinafter) by Tim Burridge. The ROW have not won this trophy since 1990 and started badly with only 1/2 point to show from the first three matches. This pattern continued for much of the afternoon with the ROW never really gaining a strong foothold on the match and which Cornwall eventually won 14-8. In the match involving the two Captains mention should be made of Russell Combellack's second to the green from 150 yds which landed and stopped about three feet from the pin for a birdie to win the hole and the match.

The golfers, many wearing their Cornish Tartan ties, then adjourned to the Club's newly re-decorated restaurant for dinner, speeches and the customary fines for trivial offences both real and imagined.
