Colonels/Metropole Cup (Round 5)

Published: 7th July 2014

The 5th round of the Colonels/Metropole Cup was played this Saturday in glorious sunshine, with very little wind.  With 79 players turning out there should have been no excuse for poor golf!

In Division 1, the Colonels Cup, Greg Mather took the winners spot with a superb score of 38 points, he would not have been expecting a high score on the first which he blobbed but played a solid round from then on.  In second place, Richard Blake had 35 points and following him in 3rd was Rob Cook on 34.  4th and 5th place went to Dave Flew and Keith Hawke, both on 33 points.

Division 2, the Metropole Cup, was tight at the top with Ollie Clarke beating Andy Carthew on countback.  At 35 points both cut a point from their handicaps, as did Nigel Thomas in 3rd place, who scored 34 points.  Ollie and Nigel will next time move to division 1 if they continue on form.  4th and 5th place went to John Westlake and Joe Tamblyn respectively, both scoring 32.

The Series tables are taking shape with 5 rounds now played and the best 4 scores to count.  In the Colonels Cup Richard Hawken is charging ahead.  Rich is 6 points clear at the top from Shaun Beare, both of whom have played in all 5 rounds so far.

In the Metropole cup Nigel Buse leads the way with just 4 scores recorded, all very solid.  Nigel Thomas, having played all 5 rounds, improved his score dramatically to sit in 2nd spot.  However being on the cusp of the cut between divisions Nigel Thomas hops from one to the other!
