Colonel's and Metropole Cups (8)

Published: 21st September 2015

The final round of the Colonel’s and Metropole Cups were played on Saturday in glorious late summer weather.  There were a few contenders in each division, in with a chance of winning the series, so it was all to play for.

Division 1 was won on the day by Mike Masters (not in the series), having won the Wednesday evening stableford Mike continued his form to win on countback with 36 points.  Andy Bunt came 2nd also on 36 points and Matt Mills was 3rd with 36.  Josh Greenaway and Nick Evans both scored 35 points to finish 4th and 5th respectively and Kevin Birkett took the 6th prize on countback with 34 points just ahead of the main contenders for the Series.

Division 2 saw Pete Liddicoat taking 1st place on 34 points with Terry Carthew (2nd) and Steve Cock (3rd) behind him, both on 33 points.  In 4th Wayne Mitchell had 32 points beating Paul Honey in 5th and Andy Griffiths in 6th on countback.

The Colonel’s Cup Series was tight throughout the day, Nick Shelley played early and improved his 4th best score to climb to the top of the table, Keith Hawke and Richard Hawken were  3rd and 4th on the table but neither one improved on their 4th best score, same for Dave Pooley.  John Arnold improved his 4th score as did Mark Westlake.  Steve Buse played late in the day, he was sitting at the top of the table so needed to beat Nick Shelley’s overall score.  Both Steve and Nick scored 34 points gaining 18 series points, this was enough for Steve to remain top of the table with 76 series points overall.  Steve wins the Colonel’s Cup 2015.  Nick Shelley finished in 2nd position with 75 series points.  Charlie Runnalls finished 3rd without needing to defend his score of 74.  Keith Hawke was 4th and Mark Westlake 5th.

The Metropole Cup Series was equally close at the top with Keith Thompson needing to defend his 1 point advantage over Steve Cock and Ken Perring.  Keith finished up the day with 15 series points – not enough to improve his 4th best score, leaving him on 76 points overall, while Ken Perring achieved a 1 point advantage to bring him level with Keith at the top.  Steve Cock finished his round in 3rd place on countback, to gain 19 series points and improve his 4th best score leaving him on 76 points aswell.   Steve’s 5th best score makes him the overall winner of the series and the Metropole Cup for 2015.  Keith Thompson finished 2nd overall with Ken Perring coming in 3rd.  Andy Griffiths finished 4th overall and Keith Searle 5th.

The series tables are available to view in the extras section, I’m sure there are some closely fought battles further down the table that need to be settled in beer tokens!
