Clubhouse Development

Published: 26th September 2012

Members will, of course, recall that at this year’s A.G.M. in April both the President and the Chairman mentioned that, following considerable funds quite rightly being spent on our courses over past years, it was felt that the time had now come to consider the over-due up-grading of our somewhat tired Clubhouse and future development of the much-loved building.

In the light of this, members will be aware from minutes of the Management Committee monthly meetings that appropriate professional advice had been sought in establishing the best way forward in the short and long term interests of the Club and its members.
Initial lengthy discussions centred on the possibility of a total re-build of the Clubhouse. However, given the very substantial costs and disruption to members and guests over an extended period, this option was turned aside. As mentioned at the A.G.M., the present Management Committee has always felt it prudent to live within its financial resources and, if we were to have pursued this option, a more than significant part of the costs would have had to come from a members’ levy, increased subscriptions and/or debt. Given the uncertain economic climate in which we live and operate it was unanimously felt that members would have absolutely no appetite for such a move – we have all seen difficulties encountered within the industry both locally and nationally.

Therefore, a phased remodel has been explored and some very exciting ideas have come out as a result, which will be expanded upon at a members’ meeting to be held shortly. Detailed draft plans of the interior of the remodelled parts of the Clubhouse are under Extras, it is a large file and may take a while to open.

It is hoped that the first phase of the project can begin in early 2013 but there is still much work to accomplish before a firm start date can be announced.

There will be an open meeting of the members on Friday 12th October at 6.30 pm for members to learn more about the proposed plans to remodel the clubhouse. The Committee will be on hand to hear Members’ comments and opinions.

John Radford,

Chairman, Management Committee.
