On Monday the Seniors enjoyed a visit to the excellent, well-presented, parkland course at China Fleet. In spite of one Senior turning up with his feet but no golf-shoes, and another with his fully-charged battery but no trolley, they fought hard against doughty opposition but lost on the day by 5 matches to 3. However, as Captain-of-the-Day, Paul Godfrey, pointed out in his few words of response after the meal, the fact that St. Enodoc had won 5 ½ to 3 ½ at home a couple of weeks ago meant that 'the good guys' had prevailed by a solitary point in the combined, home & away tally.
The sides were well-matched and thrived on each other's company, and this fixture after its first three years already seems to be well-established.
There is another matter to report and which concerns the outstanding sucess of two Seniors at the Launceston Duchy Shield Pairs competition. The winning pair of this event were John Russell and John Bower however since the latter is the website's Seniors correspondent and is somewhat reticent about reporting his own sucess the Junior webmaster has decided to do it for him. The Duchy Shield is a very well supported event and with in excess of sixty pairs participating very competitive. This better ball pairs event is played off 3/4's handicap and our boys came in with a remarkable score of 42 points - including three gross birdies. Congratulations to John and John !
