On Friday twenty Seniors contested this year's Berry & Young trophy on the Holywell, the ten pairs playing a Pinehurst Greensome. Although this is arguably a friendly format, the considerable wind ensured that the course, which was in very good condition, was adequately protected.

Third place was claimed by Harry Gliddon and Dermot Studd on 36 points, second place went to Nigel Gallagher and David Balmford, and the winners on count-aback with 38 points were David Girling and Mike Parry, each claiming later that it was the first golf trophy he had ever won – congratulations to both.

After a tasty, celebratory meal with the ladies in the Club dining-room – attended by special guests Mrs. Pat Berry and her son, Michael - the assembled company were treated to a delightful, light-comedy musical turn by David & Betty Balmford, and everyone went home in rude, good humour.
