The Annual Club Charity Day was held on Wednesday. The mist rolled in to cause a bit of concern but lifted just before the first group teed off and came in again at the end of the day, there was even a slight glimpse of the sun but then Tony Rounsevell went home.

The Cove Project, Macmillan Cancer Care was the beneficiary of the day and Emma Wright, their Cornwall and Scilly Isles fund raising manager, was there. The good news is that they are very near to announcing the start of the building although there is the need for more funds to be raised before completion. Thanks to Beth Elliott, Di Mindel and Annie Matthews for selling so many raffle tickets (over a 1000) on the day and beforehand and for all who donated prizes, and bought tickets, it made around £1150. Mike Jarvis and Annie Hawkey charmed/cajoled golfers to gamble on their ability to hit the 15th green and raised £480! Although the final amount is not certain, it would appear the day has made around £6,500 for the Cove, which is really amazing. Thanks to all involved, especially all the staff who worked their socks off all day.

PS: There was a “buggy incident” on the 10th for which the Captain eats humble pie (and more), self flagellation and a self imposed fine to the charity as he drove off in the wrong buggy complete with someones clubs. No names except to say the "In Spite of Golding" team may well be renamed "In Spite of Golding (and Elliott)" next year! Sorry.
