Everything looked set for a magnificent day with a full field of 20 teams on the Church and 6 more on the Holywell to be followed by a barbecue and disco after the golf. The one niggling doubt was the weather which was threatening rain but yet again Captain Tony's luck held just as it had done for the Festival Weekend 4 weeks earlier as we had bright sunshine all day with the dark rain clouds skirting around us, we however had a 2 to 3 club wind which seemed to have a mind of its own but it did add to the fun. The format for the Shotgun event was 4 ball better ball with 1 to score on the first hole, 2 on the second and 3 on the third then back to 1,2,3 again and so on. With a “Par” score of 72 there was much speculation of what would be required and it was agreed that you would need 80 at least to be in the prizes and over 85 to win and how right that turned out to be with the clear winners John Pease, Kevin Richards, Sue Kingston and Will MacPherson scoring 87 points.

With lots of prizes on the table here is the list of those who did not go home empty handed;-

During the prizegiving, very cleverly the wind direction had wafted the wonderful smells of the barbecue cooking into the lounge area which resulted in the queue forming very quickly after the last prize had been handed out! Chefs David and Wappo had yet again produced a really excellent variety of food ranging from steaks to Monkfish parcels and there was none left over afterwards which says a lot! Wappo then put his other professional hat on (what a talented lad he is and a marathon runner to boot) on by providing the disco which was first class with an excellent variety of music to suit the age of the audience ( that's enough of that - getting on thin ice here).

Well done Captain Tony a great Captain's Day and thanks from all those of us who enjoyed it to you and the terrific team of helpers which you have assembled around you and have made all the events you have organised to date so successful.
