A close call for those Good Ol' Boys at Tehidy

Published: 8th April 2017

Following the submission of the consultation document, published last week, many of our Seniors were putting their names down for the monogrammed bath robes; and they were looking forward to the uni-sex hot tub, spa, sauna, and massage suite. When the date of the document was explained, some were overcome with such disappointment that it clearly affected their golfing performance. Although they avoided defeat to Tehidy Seniors it was a closer match than previous form might have suggested. There was an incident on the 17th Green where the opposing Captain, Mick Crapper, forgot to mark his ball, which might have altered the result of the whole match. He was obviously deeply troubled by this experience because he went on to describe Paul Godfrey hitting a driver off the fairway as reminiscent of Montgomery in his pomp. Which Montgomery that might have been was not clear (Field Marshal?).

Captain of the Day Steve Smith thanked a couple of late replacements: Bill Gowans and Kevin Birkett. Kevin turned up at an hour’s notice won his match 6 and 5 and went home.

Steve Smith and Paul Godfrey - won 2 up
Mike Lovett and Garry Cooper - all square
Keith Hawke and Harry Gliddon - lost 4 and 3
Kevin Birkett and Bill Hughes - won 6 and 5
Bill Gowans and David Balmford – lost 2 and 1
Nigel Thomas and Stuart Sandercock - won 5 and 4
Richard Parsons and Terry Johns – all square
Nigel Oleson and Jim Crouch - lost 3 and 2

RESULT: Match halved – 4 all.
