Ladies Spring Meeting

The annual Spring meeting took place on Tuesday 5th April on a truly spring like day with lovely sunshine and light winds.

The competition was well supported with 23 teams of 3 taking part on both courses, and despite the good conditions scoring well appeared to prove difficult for many of them (perhaps we have forgotten how to play in good weather?!). The teams who scored well on the Holywell course were, in first place Gloria Crouch, Rose Jones & Annabell Woollcott winning with 79 points (41 on back nine), just pipping the team of Mary Baillie, Carolyn Ramsbottom & Catherine Kromholc also with 79 points (35 on back nine) and in third place with 74 points were Jayne Brenton, Margaret Godwin & Catherine Beagley.

On the Church Course the winning team by a significant margin were Penny Cartwright, Heather Brewer & Chris Henderson with 76 points, the credit for this excellent score being given to her team mates by Penny. The margin for the remaining prizes was smaller and in second place with 67 points were Sarah Sandercock, Maggie Day & Cath Buscombe, closely followed in third place by Barbara Willmott, Sue Kingston-Frost & Edna Alford with 65 points and the team of Pauline Meredith, Sue Richards & Ann Humphreys finished in fourth place with 63 points.

Nearest the pin on the Holywell course 16th hole was Nan Girling and on the Church course 8th hole was Pauline Meredith.

The prize table was a beautiful sight, with spring flower buckets, wine & chocolates for the lucky winners.

Afternoon tea was served in the restaurant which had been given a bright spring theme by Ladies Captain Annie Cruse and which everyone agreed was a lovely, cheerful touch. The sandwiches, cakes and tarts created and served by Wappo in his London Marathon Flintstones costume went down very well. Thanks go to all the staff at the club who worked hard to help make the day a success.

Winning team captain Penny Cartwright thanked everyone for supporting the competition and praised the course staff for providing us with such superb playing conditions. She also thanks Ladies captain Annie Cruse for an excellent day.
