New Captain Tony Rounsevell and Vice-Captain David Elliott

The Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 30th March 2013 and saw the two year Captaincy of John Baxter come to an end to be replaced by his Vice-Captain Tony Rounsevell. Tony, a Cornishman, joined St.Enodoc in the early 90s having been a Daymer Bay member since 1973. Tony played professional football with Plymouth Argyle between 1960 and 1968 then carried on playing at Weymouth till 1973; in latter years he managed both Newquay and Wadebridge Town teams. Outside football Tony worked as an Inspector with the Cornwall Mutual Insurance Company and has also been a Governor of Wadebridge Comprehensive School and was one of the founders of Wadebridge's twinning with Langueux. His Captain's Charity will be Ellie's Haven, a respite care home being prepared for terminally ill children and their families.

David Elliott becomes the new Vice-Captain having previously been Captain of the Seniors, and he has also put in many hours as Mark Arrowsmith's Volunteer Coach and has made a major contribution to the success of our Junior Academy. David, a doctor by training, was a General Practitioner in Guildford and was a Member at Worplesdon Golf Club and in his younger days was also a keen Rugby player. His golfing prowess includes being Leicestershire & Rutland Junior Champion in 1963 and represented the County at Senior level in 1964/5. He first played St Enodoc in 1962 and with the acquisition of a holiday home in Rock joined the Club in 1995 subsequently he and Beth moved their full time residence to St Minver in 2007.

In his report the Chairman of the Management Committee John Radford alluded to the very satisfactory state of the Club's finances, despite the poor weather last year, further confirmed later by the Treasurer. To the excellent state of the courses and the proposals for the clubhouse refurbishment. David Pooley, who took over from Harold Chapman as Hon. Treasurer in the Summer when Harold for both health and family reasons decided to emigrate to Australia, gave a glowing tribute to Harold who was so sadly killed in a car accident shortly after arriving in Australia. The tribute was moving as David had known Harold for many years and as he had been very much his mentor at North Cornwall District Council where in 2001 he succeeded him as Director of Finance.

John Baxter completed his two years as Captain and thanked all those who contributed to the smooth running of the Club. With the Club winning both the Men's and Ladies' Team championships at their respective County Weeks. The Ladies winning the Gammon Trophy under Meg Godfrey's captaincy, their County knockout competition. Followed very recently by our Frank Wills Team led by Captain Bob Cruse and our Cornwall Team Championship Scratch side led by Steve Chapman and Kenton Williams we have had a stellar year. Martin Biddle won the County Mens' Seniors Stroke play Championship. Success also at Mens County week for Pete Liddicoat and Mark Westlake together with the performances of our Lady Vets, and Men's and Ladies' Mail on Sunday teams prove that it has without doubt been the most successful competitive year for the Club ever.
