125th Anniversary - Tom Watson Wedge

Published: 6th July 2015

Throughout the week the 125th Anniversary Celebrations have been gaining momentum.   Saturday saw the Men’s Competition joining in with their Tom Watson Wedge 4 Ball Competition.   80 Members entered the competition, a popular competition in its own right with the victorious team winning the Wedge presented by Derek Kingsbury who was the winning bidder at auction, Tom having generously given it to the Club for charity, this year becoming more prestigious still with the top 3 teams winning the 125th Anniversary Crystal Glassware.

The competition was a fun format, played in teams of 4.  Each player can choose to play off the Blue tees (where available!) or the Yellow tees on each hole, and gains an extra Stableford point when playing from the Blue tees.  2 scores from each team count on the front 9, and 3 scores count on the back 9 – a complicated card to mark!

  • 1st  Pete Liddicoat, John Arnold, Peter George and Marc Knight scored 126 points and each won a £20 Voucher and a 125th Anniversary Pint Glass.
  • 2nd on countback, Rob Cook, Kevin Brenton, Joe Combellack and Andy Bunt scored 116 points and won a £13 Voucher each and a 125th Anniversary Half Pint Glass.
  • 3rd  Norman Evans, Joe Tamblyn, Bob Cruse and Nick Shelley also with 116 points, won a £7 Voucher each and a 125th Anniversary Whiskey Glass.
